In this talk we discuss recent developments in the design and analysis of numerical homogenization methods able to capture the effective behavior of a multiscale physical process, while resolving the fine scale only locally within the computational domain. In particular, we will discuss reduced order modeling  (via reduced basis) for nonlinear problems and adaptive multiscale methods that couple Stokes and Darcy problems.
