Scientific mediation

français

The LJK regularly participates in scientific outreach activities aimed at schoolchildren and the general public.

Understanding and Taking Action – Series of conferences and debates and YouTube channel

The Understand and Act conference-debates feature scientists discussing global issues such as climate change and biodiversity loss, as well as their social, economic, geopolitical and humanitarian consequences. Aimed at a wide audience, the presentations generally last between 45 and 60 minutes and are followed by a debate with the audience lasting at least 45 minutes.

Science Festival

Every year, to mark the Science Festival, the University of Grenoble Alpes organizes the event
Eclats de Sciences. The LJK always has a stand there, designed in line with the theme of the year.

Discovery internships for tenth graders

Every year, the LJK welcomes around fifteen tenth graders, for their internship to discover the professional world. During this one- or two-week stay, a variety of activities (meetings with researchers, workshops, projects, etc.) are organized to introduce them to the world of mathematical research and challenge them in groups with small mathematical problems.

MathC2+

The national project MathC2+ allows motivated students (as identified by their teachers and school principals) in grades 8 through 12 to discover the world of mathematical and scientific research. Every year, the Grenoble school district organizes such an internship (40 to 50 students), in partnership with IREM, Inria, and laboratories from the MSTIC cluster. LJK participates very regularly, in various forms: lectures, workshop facilitation, platform visits...

MATh.en.JEANS

Members of the LJK and the Fourier Institute organized the MATh.en.JEANS 2023 conference in the Auvergne Rhône-Alpes region (300 participants). The LJK also provided financial support for the organization of this conference. In addition, several LJK members attend MATh.en.JEANS workshops every year in high schools
and middle schools in the academy.

La Grange des Maths

Several LJK members are heavily involved in the association La Grange des Maths. This association aims to “de-dramatize” mathematics for all audiences through various activities. In particular, it develops educational kits, containing fun math-related activities, adapted to the curriculum (one kit for each cycle 2, 3, and 4) and usable independently by teachers with their classes. These kits are distributed throughout the Grenoble school district and have been used by approximately 50,000 children to date. They have been awarded the 2020 Jacqueline Ferrand Educational Innovation Prize by the French Mathematical Society.

Interventions in elementary schools, middle schools, and high schools

Finally, interventions in elementary schools, middle schools, and high schools take place each year “as needed,” at the initiative of the schools and/or a few colleagues.
