Development of the spiral structure
Image computed for every fifth unit of time ranging from 30 to
200.
The animation clearly indicates the delta-function structure of
the solution for small values of t.
The Fourier-series is not uniformly convergent and we have
chosen
to concentrate on values of t larger than 50. The animation starts at
t=30
to give a sense of the change in magnitude which takes place.
(Unfortunately
the z-axis was lost in the process of converting the images to a
presentable
format.) Here, the hat-like stationary part has a value of
approximately
0.23 at the summit. The peaks of the vorticity sheets are at about 0.8.
The parameters are chosen as by Lundgren, i.e. (G,a,h,nu)=(1,1,0.5,1/25
000).
