Dimitri Bălășoiu

Laboratoire Jean Kuntzmann · TOTAL

I am a doctoral student in applied mathematics, under the supervisation of Stéphane Labbé and Jérome Weiss, in the Partial Differential Equations (PDE) research team of the Laboratoire Jean Kuntzmann.

In 2012, a collaboration between TOTAL E&P and the Université Grenoble Alpes (with Stéphane Labbé and Jérome Weiss) has been launched on the study of sea ice mechanics. During Matthias Rabatel's PhD thesis, they developped a granular model for sea ice modeling which is particularly well suited for simulations of the Marginal Ice Zone (MIZ). The goal of my PhD is to add fracture mechanics to this model. Therefore, I focus on topics such as linear elasticity, fracture mechanics, variational calculus, Gamma-convergence, and shape optimization.
