Theoretical and practical issues of coastal and urban flooding models
In this talk, I will try to give an overview on broad number of challenges that modellers need to tackle when they deal with the simulation of flood in coastal and urban areas. These challenges are twofold: first, theoretical aspect linked mainly with the limits and validity of several assumptions. Second, practical issues linked to the mesh criteria, computation resources, how to represent physics numerically, etc. An introductive part will be given to present the numerical activities and tools we are using at EDF R&D to answer the more-and-more constraining and urgent inquiries of the safety of nuclear power plants.
